Sadness is the flip for happiness. It is another response to an attachment to the way one wishes events to occur, and they don't occur in that way. It is a hopelessness of life turning around and a blindness to the reality of the flux of life. The pain of broken expectations once cherished, and surrendered to as a lesson and blessing, can bring one up. However time travelled to do so is dependent on the detachment of the ego and the severity of the situation.
