The Statue of Freedom was a gift from the French people to the Americans on the commemoration of American independence on July 4, 1776. The Statue of Liberty was built jointly by France and the United States. An agreement was signed between the Americans and the French that the American people would build the pedestal and that the French people would be responsible for the Statue and its assembly in the United States. The Statue of Liberty is situated on Liberty Island in Manhattan, New York, United States. The copper statue, a gift from the French people to the American people, was designed by the French sculptor Frederic Auguste Bartholdi and built by Gustave Eiffel. The Statue was completed in France in July 1884 and arrived in New York Harbor on 17 June 1885 onboard the French frigate "Isere." In transit, the Statue was divided into 350 pieces and packed in 214 crates. When the pieces of that statue made it to America, it took four months to reassemble all the pieces. On October 28, 1886, President Grover Cleveland supervised the inauguration of the Statue of Liberty before thousands of spectators. It has a height of 305 feet, 6 inches from the base of the torch pedestal foundation. The height of the statue from its heel to the summit of its head is 111 feet, 6 inches. The Statue of Freedom weighed approximately 225 tons. When the restoration was completed in 1986, the new torch was carefully coated with thin 24k gold foil. Its crown has seven spokes, representing the world's seven continents. Each radius has a length of 9 feet and weighs approximately 150 pounds. One person must walk 354 steps from the pedestal at the head of the Statue of Liberty. There's a way in the statue to get to her head. A tablet held by the statue on its left measurements 23' 7" high and 13' 7" broad, inscribed with the date JULY IV MDCCLXXVI (July 4, 1776). Under the Statue, the chains of oppression and tyranny are broken. The French and Americans collected 2,250,000 francs (250,000 US dollars. dollars) to organize funds to build this statue. The World Heritage Site was declared by UNESCO in 1984.
