The monks commune and achieve their enlightenment amongst the swirling smoke and lights of the industrial megaplex. I thought of this as a perverted take on a Baroque painting of angels you might find on an altarpiece or church ceiling. I wanted everything in this piece to be unexpected and add variety to the series—the subject matter, the composition, and the colors are all working to add a different dimension to these monks’ lives, and by extension, our relationship with technology.
