The river is considered sacred in Hinduism as it provides water for living and is a habitat for many creatures. The Gopis at that time were bathing naked which is considered disrespectful and is a grave sin. Lord Krishna saw that the ladies have forgotten what is the proper way to bathe in river and should teach them a lesson so that it may not be repeated. Moreover, if women stray away from the right path they teach the same to their younger generations, leading the future towards sin. Lord Krishna stole the clothings and taught them that it is unsafe for women to bathe naked as well as a sin. To make them free from the grave sin they committed, Lord Krishna told them to come in the same way as they took bath. The energy from him cleansed the bodies of the Gopis. Many people consider it a harassment. But Lord Krishna is God made them do so to make them free from the sin they committed. He also stole butter from households. This is a crime. But all the butter was taken to Kamsa and children were starving. Hence to declare that he had come and give nutrition to every child he stole butter and have them to his friends. Every thing Krishna did was an act of kindness and should not be considered crime or harassment. Understanding the meaning is very difficult thats why most of the people consider Krishna sinful and hate him. There is no God, who for the benefit of his devotee goes to such a behaviour even though it might break his reputation. He loves his devotee very much and he is the proof of that.
