Mordor was a black, volcanic plain located in the southeast of Middle-earth to the East of Gondor. Mordor was chosen by Sauron to be his realm because of the mountain ranges surrounding it on three sides, creating a natural fortress against his enemies.

Lothlórien is the fairest realm of the Elves remaining in Middle-earth during the Third Age. It is ruled by Galadriel and Celeborn from their city of tree-houses at Caras Galadhon. The realm is the Elven centre of resistance against the Dark Lord Sauron.
